Basics about Depression Screening

Depression is an illness. It is normal to feel sad, down or blue at times, but if you are feeling this way for more than 2 weeks at one time, you may be depressed. Your doctor can screen you for depression.

Some signs of depression are feeling empty or hopeless, sleeping too much or too little, losing interest in activities you used to enjoy or thinking about suicide or death. Depression can be successfully treated with talking therapy, medication or both.

What You Can Do

Talk to your doctor about how you are feeling. Getting help is the best thing you can do to start feeling better. In addition to depression treatment, you can start an exercise program and eat a healthy diet.
