Basics about Diabetes Screening
Diabetes is a disease in which there is too much sugar (glucose) in your blood. Diabetes can cause serious health problems like heart disease, kidney disease, nerve damage and blindness. This disease cannot be cured but it can be controlled. You may be at increased risk for diabetes if you are overweight, have a blood pressure greater than 135/80, are 65 years or older or have a family history of diabetes.
What You Can Do
Talk with your doctor about healthy lifestyle changes you can make including watching your weight, controlling your blood pressure and cholesterol, being active and eating healthy. Ask your doctor when you should start diabetes screening.
