Basics about Glaucoma Screening

Vision changes for adults as they get older. Glaucoma is a group of diseases that can harm the eye’s optic nerve. Some of these changes can be serious and cause vision loss or even blindness. Studies show the importance of having your eyes checked by an eye doctor to find glaucoma early so it can be easily treated.

You are at risk for glaucoma if you are 65 years or older, are African-American and over the age of 40, have diabetes or have a family member with diabetes or eye disease.

What You Can Do

Talk to you doctor about when you should start having eye screenings. Watch for eye problems and let your doctor know right away if you have any of these problems: sudden loss of vision, flashes of light, tiny spots that float across your eye or redness, swelling or eye pain.
