Patient Education

IPRO works with physician offices and other healthcare providers to increase physician and staff knowledge of kidney disease and current evidence-based treatments and best practices. However, it is equally important for these healthcare professionals to educate their patients about identifying and managing chronic kidney disease (CKD), and treatment options for kidney failure.

Below are a series of helpful resources for raising patient awareness of kidney disease.

National Kidney Disease Education Program
Includes free resources and information in English and Spanish tailored to both patients and healthcare professionals.

American Kidney Fund
Patient information and downloadable brochures and other tools for use in physician offices.

American Association of Kidney Patients
Founded by kidney patients for kidney patients, this organization strives to provide education and resources that support the health and well being for people with kidney disease. The Web site offers print resources as well information on community events and opportunities for kidney patients to participate in advocacy events.

National Kidney Foundation
In addition to the brochures available at the link, the site includes a variety of information on CKD and other kidney-related topics including nutrition, diabetes and exercise.

Kidney Early Evaluation Program (KEEP)
KEEP is a free health screening program offered by the National Kidney Foundation (NKF) for individuals at increased risk of developing kidney disease.

The National Institute of Diabetes and Digestive and Kidney Diseases
This link will direct you to kidney disease-specific information on the NIDDK, which includes easily readable patient-level materials in both English and Spanish.
