Organizations and Individuals From Across State Demonstrate “Strong Commitment” to Quality Improvement

(Lake Success, NY – May 20, 2010) – Seventeen healthcare organizations and professionals from throughout New York State will receive Quality Awards from IPRO on June 8. The awards, given annually by IPRO, the Medicare Quality Improvement Organization (QIO) for New York State, recognize individuals and organizations that demonstrate a commitment to improving the quality of care provided to New York’s Medicare beneficiaries. 

The awards will be given during IPRO’s 26th Annual Meeting, to be held at the LaGuardia Marriott Hotel in East Elmhurst, NY.  The meeting will feature a keynote address by James R. Tallon, Jr., a nationally recognized leader in health policy, who serves as President of the United Hospital Fund.

"While they are different from one another in many respects, what unites this group of awardees is a strong commitment to quality improvement," says Clare B. Bradley MD, MPH, Senior Vice President and Chief Medical Officer, IPRO.  "Quality improvement is a complex and time-consuming process, and we thank them for their dedication to this effort, and for their achievements."

Under its contract with the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services, IPRO helps New York healthcare providers to develop and adopt techniques and systems that improve care for Medicare beneficiaries in a range of clinical areas.  Those receiving Quality Awards have worked successfully with IPRO on projects relating to one or more of these areas.

The awards presentation will be part of a luncheon program that includes remarks by Mr. Tallon of the United Hospital Fund. Mr. Tallon heads a not-for-profit research and philanthropic organization that is committed to promoting high-quality, patient-centered services that are accessible to all. Among the Fund’s major achievements are its leadership role in framing New York City’s earliest responses to the AIDS crisis, its pioneering programs to improve end-of-life care and its developing and publishing the influential Blueprint for Universal Health Insurance Coverage in New York.
