Nursing Home Quality Initiative

For the 9th Scope of Work (SOW) Patient Safety Theme, also known as the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid (CMS) National Patient Safety Initiative (NPSI), IPRO is assisting select New York State Nursing Homes to improve patient safety by reducing rates of pressure ulcers and use of physical restraints, and providing quality improvement technical assistance for nursing homes in need.

In the 8SOW, Nursing Homes working with IPRO successfuly improved 31.62% in the Physical Restraint Quality Measure (QM) and 17.41% in the High Risk Pressure Ulcer QM. A group of Nursing Homes, similar to those targeted for improvement in the 9SOW, improved 10.7% in the Physical Restraint QM and 18.40% in the High Risk Pressure Ulcer QM.

New York State Nursing Homes, successful in Reducing Physical Restraints, utilized these Restraint Elimination Tools to achieve improvement in this QM.

For the 9SOW Patient Safety theme to reduce Pressure Ulcer Rates in Hospitals and Nursing Homes, these Pressure Ulcer Prevention and Management Tools will assist care givers in both settings.
